Biography

Dear visitor of my website.

My name is Saskia Hoeboer.

In 1960 I was born as one of the youngest from a family of four kids in Meppel, the Netherlands

Since 1988 I have been making dolls of fimo-clay, and the last couple of years I mainly work on my Crystal Fairies.

Before I started making dolls I worked at a jewelry store.

After the birth of my daughter Marlies I stopped working and let my creative mind find its way into the sculpting again.

I’ve always had interests in minerals.

When I was a kid I collected all kinds of rocks.
Every now and then my dad brought me a different rock.
Next to that I was always looking for new challenges.

I started with following all different kinds of ‘doll courses’, like for example at Marlaine Verhelst’ place.

After a while I started developing my own style.

The minerals are my ‘base’ on which I start the sculpting.

Every fairy is sculpted on a different kind of stone.
That means that every fairy is unique.

The combination of the fairies and the minerals are special.
They say that minerals have healing powers.
But not everybody is sensitive for these powers, neither am I.

Yet there is something special going on with these stones.
Every sculpture I make with these stones seem to succeed.

And I always seem to know what colors of clay to mix to correspond with the stone I am using.

Next to fairies and mermaid, I also make modern sculptures of bronze and clay.

My fairies are now sold and exhibited in several countries. Every now and then I attend an event to sell my work.
